HAVE YOU EVER FOUND YOURSELF IN A WORLD THAT HAD SUDDENLY TURNED UPSIDE DOWN?
- Jerry Horner, B.A., B.D., M.Div., Th.D.

The Bible is filled with promises of God’s mercy, help, and deliverance in times of trouble, and it’s easy to accept and believe those promises in the absence of trials.
But how is it when the testing time comes, especially in overwhelming proportion that leaves little or no room for hope of deliverance?
Because of its graphic descriptions of suffering, some of which are beyond imagination, this is not an easy book to read. When you do read it, however, your hope in God will reach a higher level and joyful praise will spring from the depths of your soul. You will agree that it is better to be in a dark valley with Jesus than on a sunlit mountain without Him.
- Donald Nuss, MB, ChB; FRCS©, FACS; FAAP

As the pediatric surgeon-in-chief at the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters, immediately adjacent to Norfolk General Hospital (NGH), I had no jurisdiction over adult care at NGH, but I did have hospital privileges there, and I did take “pediatric trauma” calls there on a rotation basis.
Consequently, I was familiar with the trauma unit. Also during my pediatric surgery fellowship, I spent a considerable amount of time overseeing the very busy, 30-bed burn unit at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.
When Hennie was carried from the helicopter and brought into the trauma unit, he was still conscious. But as the staff removed the sheet that was covering him, his charred skin, which had adhered to the sheet, simply peeled off his body.
At a quick glance, I judged him to have sustained an 80-percent fire burn, and my immediate reaction was “Oh, my! He is not going to survive.”

This is an awesome book. Although I knew about Hennie's awful accident, I found I could not stop reading Eleanor's skilled presentation.
This is a must read for everyone and especially for those who think they are having a hard time. I wanted to stop reading because I was not sure I could handle any more but had to continue to see how in the world Hennie and Eleanor handled yet another horrific chapter in their saga.
Thanks, Eleanor, for sharing this life-changing story.
