What would you do if you knew your destiny was under attack—that the very reason you were born might not be fulfilled? How would you respond if you knew your dreams were being sabotaged? You’d be appalled, I’m sure!

Chances are good that they are. Someone has to protect them. Someone has to fight for them. Someone has to pay for them. Why? Because evil prowls for prey. It takes a fight to hold on to the good. Success takes work. No one has ever achieved anything that was valuable to him or her without effort, a fight, or sacrifice. Wish it were different, but it is simply the truth.

Who will protect, fight, and pay for you to see your dreams and destiny come to pass?

Tag you’re it! Yes, you are! Only you know what is really in your heart. Only you know what is important to you. Only you can hear the voice of God concerning direction for your life. Others may confirm it, but if you don't hear it from God, be careful who you listen to.

God’s plan for you on earth is set in heaven, but here on earth it is unfortunately subject to interruption, distortion, and destruction. God has given you zeal, gifts, and character to accomplish His will, yet at times you are not strong enough. You may fail, get discouraged, or lose hope. You need God—His power, strength, wisdom, and favor. You also need love, support, wisdom, and experience from other wise people you allow to speak into your life.

Here are three easily recognizable destroyers and how to slay them:

Wrong people, alliances or relationships

Think back over your life at ages 18 to 24. Who were you spending the most time with? What were you up to? Where was your focus?

Where you are today has some relation to these answers. For the same reason, who you spend most of your time with today is an indication of where you’ll be tomorrow and even ten years from now.

Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits." 1Corinthians 15:33 (NKJV)

Instead—

Carefully consider people and their roles in your life.

Choose wisely who you give permission to influence you.

Be aware of your life morphing along with the company you keep.

Wrong thinking, understanding, or beliefs

Your life is a direct outcome of your choices, which are your decisions fueled by what you know and believe. You can’t live by an understanding you do not have; you can’t function on a belief system other than what you’ve adopted as your own.

How do you make decisions? What do you believe about yourself, God, and others? How do you process life events? What or who guides you day by day? Answers to these key questions determine the outcome of your life. Very smart people can make very stupid decisions, so you need more than mere knowledge. You need wisdom in life along with an awareness of its source.

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV)

Instead—

Don’t always follow your heart, since it listens to emotions that are fickle.

Let God heal and restore your heart and mind; it’s an ongoing process.

Be open to learn, grow, and change. We never know it all!

When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you, to deliver you from the way of evil.

Proverbs 2:10-12 (NKJV)

Wrong view of eternity

We do not talk about this very often, especially not in circles where we want to look smart or blend in with academia. Science is extremely important, but not the highest good. As a matter of fact, it easily leads a mind on its own rant, away from the unseen spiritual world where God lives and operates.

We do not believe in eternal life so that we have answers to our questions; we have answers to our questions because we believe in eternal life. It is not a cop out or pie in the sky but more real than the words on this page. More faith is required for unbelief than belief in this matter. The biggest rival for faith in eternal life with God, who created everything, is the mind’s inability to accept there is more to life than what meets the eye.

Instead—

Do not limit your life by only believing what you can physically see.

Find your answers in the Bible. At least investigate; it won’t hurt.

Know that God is bigger than your world and not in shock about your life.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life."

John 5:24 (NASB)

Anyone who tells you they have this all figured out is speaking only in part. Although we are spiritual beings, able to connect with God spiritually, we are entrapped in our flesh that lusts for its independent satisfaction. We want to live perfectly but fall short, we desire to hear from God but are called to walk by faith, and we strive to always follow the high road but find such attraction to the easy way out. No one is perfect.

Each one has to decide what is the highest good to live by. God gave each one of us a choice. May you make good decisions to serve you well. May you live to see your dreams come true and fulfill your destiny the best way you can. May you use your gift of choice to choose what is profitable for eternity. Choosing God is the best choice you’ll ever make. He made you, loves you, knows you, and is full of grace to cover your lack. Trust Him!
